Merida is known as one of the most peaceful and secure cities in Mexico and has a lot of culture that you can enjoy.
First let me give you some starting point, before choosing a hotel you need to know what is your budget and what is that you want, how much comfort are you looking for. It might depend if you are coming with your family or you are a student that want to have fun or you are coming for business.
If you want accomodation in a place with very high standards, enjoy the nature and not be near the city then some people might want to go to the Hacienda Temozon or Hacienda Teya or others available. However, you have many other options depending of what you want, for example if you want to be at the center of Merida near the theather are other cultural places there are other Hotels in that area. There are many other hotels that are cheaper but might not have the comfort of others.
There are other people that might want to come to Merida to visit the archeological zone in Yucatan. Chichen Itza is about an hour from Merida, but there is a hotel Near the Ruins of Chichen Itza called Mayaland and you can go walking from the hotel to the ruins. This is a great hotel and the best way to explore the ruins.
As you can see you have many options, so what you can do is search on google.com for the names of the hotels and take a look at the prices and compare.
